Rudy’s BBQ – San Antonio, TX

Rudy’s has one of the best barbecues in all of Texas – even though their slogan is “the worst BBQ in Texas”. Rudy’s is in a gas station and all though it looks like it wouldn’t be a great place to eat, it actually is delicious. The best thing to get a Rudy’s is the brisket. The brisket at Rudy’s. It is full of juice and has a lot of different flavorings that add spices and other flavors to it that make it really juicy. Another thing to get a ruby’s that is really good is their cream corn it has a lot of corn in it and is covered in a rich cream that has sugar and tastes really sweet. If you do decide to get the cream corn then I would add a hint of salt to it to take away from a bit off of the sweet taste from it. Another thing that I love to get at the place is there sausage. The sausage is full of spice and is really juicy. The sausage is packed full of spicies that makes the sausage really spicy. Since the place is in the a gas station I would go and get a drink at the gas station rather than at Rudy’s. I would like to go eat at Rudy’s again and I hope that u decide to too.

Rudy’s Barbecue is one of the best in Texas. The best thing I like is the brisket that the serve. They don’t put the barbecue on the brisket for you, and I don’t put any “sause” on it because it is so good without the sauce. The cream corn they serve there is also the best side they serve, and it is very good. I recommend getting a lot because you will eat a lot of it. Rudy’s is also located in a gas station, and they have a lot of different locations in Texas. You can also order ribs, sausage, and chicken. Other sides you can get potato salad, coleslaw, beans, and a big pickle. Also at Rudy’s they have pop and other drinks in glass bottles that are fun to drink out of. If you live or are visiting Texas look at eating at a Rudy’s near you it is delicious.

Rudy’s barbecue is one of the best BBQ in Texas. I like their brisket and creamed corn the best. Rudy’s is in a gas station. You can pick your own drink, and they sometimes give you samples of the creamed corn. The creamed corn is mainly corn with cream. I love it the best there. If I had to choose one thing to eat there. A lot of people love Rudy’s brisket and creamed corn the best. You should go to Rudy’s!

Twisted Root Burger – Dallas, Texas

Twisted Root Burger is a fun family like place to eat. You have a large selection of cheeseburgers to pick from.  My favorite is called the swiss mushroom.  It is the same burger that George W. Bush had when he goes there to eat!  My favorite thing at the place is the names.  They have names they give you of famous people  and when they call up your name, you come and get your food.  For example our family was given the name John Madden.  The food is really good – tender meat that is full of flavor and juices.  They also let you pick out the type of pickles you want.  The choices they have are original dill, wasabi, hot and spicy, and bread and butter pickle chips.  They are in a self-serve condiment area.  They also let u put the type of sauces you want on the sandwich.  My favorite sauce was the Dijon mustard with horseradish mixed with mayo.   I put it on my sandwich and also used it as a dip for the fries. A good example of this place is like a Five Guys Burger and Fries only a little fancier.  So if you are in Dallas Texas and near it, I recommend going to eat there.

Twisted Root Burger is a good place to eat because their cheeseburgers are good, especially if you put bacon on it.  George W.  Bush has also eaten there, and he got the mushroom swiss that my brother got.  My brother said it was really good.  The burger I got was the make your own, and I got cheddar cheese, bacon and then put on the mayo and mustard.   If you want pickles, you can put them on too – there are like 5 different kinds.   Your order is ready when they call you up by famous names.  The one we got was John Madden.  You don’t get to choose the name though – I wanted to be called Neymar.  We also ordered french fries, onion strings (fried),and sweet potato chips.  All the sides were really good.  We sat outside and it was fun because we didn’t eat until late, so it wasn’t to hot or crowded.  Twisted Roost also had its own homemade sauces; one was a mustard horseradish which was really good and wasn’t spicy at all.  If you ever come to Dallas, Texas, and are hungry eat at Twisted Root Burger.

Barnett – 8

We went to eat at Twisted Root Burger.  On the door it said, “We are slow, but the food is good!”  That was kinda true, they were a little slow, but the food was really good.  When you order, they don’t put pickles on your burger, because you get to put on your own pickles.  The pickle bar has lots of pickles to choose from – butter, spicy, sweet, and dill.  I got a cheeseburger with no bun.  It was good because their cheeseburgers are really good.  They put a lot of cheese on it.  I had french fries, and they were crispy.  We ate outside.  Inside the air conditioning was cold.  They had neat tables that had soda pop tops sealed in them.  They looked neat.  I would go there again because I liked the burgers and I really liked the pickles they had.

St. Louis Arch – St. Louis, Missouri

The St. Louis Arch is the tallest memorial in the United States. It goes up to 630 feet high up. When you first see the arch you may think that it doesn’t look big enough to hold an elevator car, but it does.  When you get up close to the arch you can tell that it  is bigger than you thought it would be.

When you get on the ride I would recommend seeing one of the movies first so that you can either learn more about the arch or about Lewis and Clark.  Both of the movies are in Imax. When we went  to the arch we saw the Lewis and Clark film. It was about the journey Lewis and Clark took to explore the west and get to the Pacific Ocean.  I thought it was one of the best movies made about Lewis and Clark that I have seen yet.  It was very informative, and I learned a lot from that video.

After the movie we went to the little gift shop they had and Dad got our tickets for our ride to the top of the arch. In the little gift shop they had book about Lewis and Clark plus they had collectables for the arch.  On the other side of the underground museum/area there is another shop.  The second shop is full of old candies and other old fashioned stuff.

The next thing we did is wait in line for the ride to the top of the arch. There was stuff to do in line that told about how the arch was made and why it was built.  When we finally did get on the ride, you sit in a pod.  It can fit five people and is a really tight fitting elevator.  There are eight of these pods on one side of the arch and eight in the other area. It took the elevator four minutes to get to the top and three minutes back down.  At the top you have a nice view of the whole city.  We went at night, and I thought it looked better at night than in the day time. On the way down, it took us around three minutes this time to get to the bottom.  I thought that it was a really cool although I am afraid of heights and it was stressful to go up and do it.  So if you are in the area you should definitely try it out.

Have you ever been in a building that is 630 feet high?  If not the St. Louis Arch is where you need to go.  The arch is downtown right near the Mississippi River.  To get tickets you can call or get them there.  Before you go on the elevator to the arch you will want to see one of the movies.  The two movie they have that you can buy to see are called Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West, and Monument to the Dream: The Making of the Gateway Arch.  We went to see Lewis and Clack and it was good, but we did not see the other.  It it looked good though.

To get to the top of the arch you have to take an elevator.  The elevator is not normal though. The elevator holds 5 people and there are 8 cars at a time that go up together at the same time. On the elevator you set down in  a chair.  The capsule you are in is small, but you do not go very fast.   In  the elevator you do not go side ways or upside down like a roller coaster.  You always stay sitting flat – like a ferris wheel.  Once you get to the top you can stay as long as you want and the view is nice.  To get back down you go in a capsule like you got up. Once you get back down you can go and look in the museum.  Going up in the arch is definitely worth the money. :)

Barnett – 8

I liked the St. Louis arch.  It looks very big from the outside.  It looks like a big U upside down, and it is very shiny.  From far away it looked small, as we were driving up to it.  BUt, up close it is big.

The first thing we did was go to the movie.  The movie was called Lewis and Clark.  Lewis liked to walk along the river with his dog and be alone.  He once slipped and fell as he was trying to pick a plant.  He founds plants and feathers and collected them in a book.  The book kept track of all of the new animals.  Clark ran the boats and was the leader on the boats.  His slave, York, went with him on the trip.  They met Sacagawea, she helped them find food and things to  live.

Then we went up the arch.  We had to get in little pods.  It took almost 4 minutes to get to the top.  The pod was small and hot.  At the top they had very tiny windows.  You could see out of them.  I could see the St. Louis Cardinals playing a baseball game and the Mississippi River.  Coming down took 3 minutes.  When you are done you need to get out quickly so other people can get in and go.

It was fun, so you should do it too.

Canlan Ice Sports – Fort Wayne, Indiana

Hadley – 11

Today we went to the Canlan ice hockey rink which is located inside the Lutheran Sports Facility.  There is a hotel right behind it because of hockey tournaments that they have on the weekends. Inside there are three hockey rinks.  On an open free day you can rent skates – Monday through Friday.  The admission is 5 dollars and to rent skates it is 3 dollars with admission.  When we went on a Monday there was only a couple people on the ice, but you can rent a stick and puck and shoot goals. We only skated we did not shoot goals, but when we looked at the people shooting goals, they were playing a game on another rink.  If you are at a tournament you can sit at the top and look down at all the games while you eat or drink. The ice rink also does many camps.  The camps are offered all year and every season.  When you skate make sure that your skates are straight or your ankles will hurt.  If I were you and haven’t gone ice skating before then Canlan is the place you do it.  The people are really helpful.  Hope you go; it is fun!

Barnett – 8

The ice skating rink at Canlan Sports Complex is really fun.  If you fall down, it is like falling down at a roller skating rink.  You can rent hockey skates or figure skating skates.  I got the figure skating skates.  They are easier to use because they are flat on the bottom.  If you fall down, no one laughs at you.  That is what makes it fun.

The place is new and big.  If you go you should bring your coat.  It is very cold inside because it is an ice rink.  You should also bring another pair of pants.  When you fall down a lot your pants will get wet.  There are three ice rinks.  There is a restaurant called the Thirsty Penguin in the top floor.  Everything was nice there.  The people are nice because they ask if you had a fun time and want you to have a fun time.  I think you should go.  I had a great time and want to go again.

Doc’s Beach House (on the beach) — Bonita Springs, Florida

Doc’s Beach House is a good place to eat if you are at the beach.  Doc’s is located in Bonita Spring, Florida.  You have four options to sit and eat —  inside, inside up stairs, outside by the beach, and outside in the front entrance.  The owners are from chicago and have a lot of chicago stuff like the Bulls ( basketball team) and Bears (football team).  They have a bunch of diffrent colors, like light green, blue, and red decorations and things hanging all over the walls.  They have only one men’s and women’s restrooms.  The restrooms are really small!  They have many different appetizers, but we picked chicken wings and fried zucchini.  The chicken wings were really good and juicy.  The wings were medium, but they were not very spicy – almost mild.  The zucchini were good, and came with a really great sauce.  It was a texas (spicy) ranch dipping sauce.  The zucchini were in crispy strips not in round circle pieces.  For our entree we got their pizza.  It was one of the worst pizzas I have ever had; it was terrible.  (This is my personal opinion.  My uncle thinks their pizza is great and orders it every time he is in town.)  The pizza was burnt and had this nasty wierd taste.  So if you do go for dinner get the wings they are the best.  On other visits, we have ordered the clam strips, tuna salad sandwich, fried grouper.  I would recommend any of those items over the pizza.

Doc’s Beach House is right on the the beach.   We sat outside when we went this time.  If you sit inside, you can go upstairs.  It is really cool up there.  It is decorated with all sorts of sports stuff.  It is also air conditioned upstairs for in the summer when it is hot.   W e got the chicken wings, the fried zuchini, and a large pizza.  The chicken wings are breaded and fried.  For the chicken wings you can get mild, medium, and hot; we got medium and they were good.  The fried zuchini was cut in sticks and fried; they were really good.  Now the pizza we ordered was okay.  We got pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms; the crust is thin crust.  It had a lot of cheese and the toppings, but it was just okay. The atmosphere is pretty cool because if you sit inside then you can see the beach.  I have been to Doc’s before, and I got the shrimp.  It was better than the pizza.

Barnett — 8

Doc’s is a restaurant.  You can sit upstairs, downstairs, outside, or by the beach.  It is big with all of that seating room.  It is nice because when it is hot outside you are right by the beach.  You can just wear casual clothes, like a shirt and shorts with flip flops.  You could wear your swimsuit and sit outside even.  The wings were good.  They are were kind of hot and really juicy.  I also had their pizza.  It was kind of good.  I did not like the crust.  It should have been better for waiting 45 minutes to get it.  You have to wait that long if you order pizza there.  The sausage was really spicy on the pizza, and I did not like that.  There sauce on the pizza was tangy and not good.  I would go there again and have something else.  I went to the bathroom, but I almost got locked in it.  They have a slide switch and not a door lock.  I could not get it open and couldn’t get out.  I had to pound on the door and keep pulling on the latch.  Don’t go to the bathroom at Doc’s.
